The BEST Tech 21 Cases for the iPhone 7/7 Plus - Evo Mesh vs Check vs Tactical vs Tactical Extreme

So what’s the best Tech 21 case you can get for your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus? I’ve been using a plethora of Tech 21 Cases over the last couple of months and I can tell you that they are all quite good.

The big selling point for these cases is the protection the cases offer your iPhone. The drop protection for these Tech 21 cases range from 5 ft for the Impact Clear to 13 ft of the Evo Tactical Extreme Edition. Tech 21 has a design cue that bothers me a bit but the handling each one of these cases is quite nice. Except for the Tech 21 Evolutive Elite. I still don’t like this case.

See what Tech 21 cases are on Amazon!

Amazon US: Amazon CA: Amazon UK: Amazon DE: Or get it on eBay: Case Comparison Tool: case that I’d generally stay away from is the Tech 21 Evo Elite. It doesn't handle well and the bottom doesn't looks as tough as other cases.I personally would prefer a case that covers the entire iPhone, not most of the bottom. The bottom of the iPhone is a more exposed with Tech 21 cases which shouldn’t be a cause for concern since a drop on the bottom edge on a flat surface won’t be an issue but you might get unlucky on uneven terrain.

The Evo Elite isn’t as big as the other Tech 21 cases but will show wear and tear from drops a little quicker than other Tech 21 cases.

The front lip of the case is quite rubbery which improves handling but the back is completely slick. This case will work better on an iPhone 7 than a iPhone 7 Plus as the larger iPhone will be harder to handle.

Next up is the Evo Tactical which is my personal favourite out of this group. In my opinion, it has the right amount of texture and it has a matte finish which I prefer. The Eve Tactical (and Evo Checks) are a little thicker and wider than the Evo Elite which is already quite wide.

The Evo Tactical fits the iPhone well and the wimpy bottom isn’t as noticeable but it is still there. The corners of the case are drop-rated to 3m or 9.9ft which is much higher than the average iPhone case but I checked with Tech 21, it isn’t going to provide much protection in a 3m / 9.9 ft face first drop. Tech 21 recommends getting a screen protector if you’re planning on dropping it face first.

Accessing the iPhone in the Evo Tactical is decent though the buttons are a smidge tougher to use.

Next up is the Evo Check or Mesh, depending on where you get it. I believe the Evo Mesh is found in Apple and the Evo Check is for every where else. The biggest difference from my perspective is the design on the back.

Between the Evo Check Active and Urban Editions, I like the Urban Edition as the horizontal lines look better than the random black dots of the Urban Edition.

The Evo Tactical Extreme reminds me a lot of the Tech 21 Patriot with one difference. The bulk of the Evo Tactical Extreme is going to be very noticeable as it is the thickest and widest case on this list. The only reprieve you have with the added bulk is the belt holster that comes with the case. The Evo Tactical Extreme has the same matte finish as the regular Tactical which I personally prefer.

The Tactical Extreme is also the toughest case on the list. It's a two-part case that where the iPhone sits in a front frame which is wrapped up by the back. This design will provide better face-first drop protection than other Tech 21 cases.

The Evo Tactical is designed to offer more dust protection for your iPhone than the average case as it has a dust cover for the lightning port, dust covers over the speaker grills and the slide mechanisms for the mute switch.

Surprisingly, the Evo Tactical is one of the better cases when it comes to accessing your iPhone. The buttons are easier to press than every other case on this list and the mute switch is easy to use. The lightning port cover is quite flexible and pops out easily and the belt holster doesn’t have a physical latch to operate which means you can remove the iPhone form the holster with one hand.

The holster also doubles as a stand usable in both landscape and portrait modes.
